For those who own an Amazon Alexa device such as an Echo Dot , Echo, Echo Plus, Echo Spot, or Echo Show – you should definitely continue reading.

According to multiple news outlets, Alexa conversations may be heard or read by several Amazon employees.  Amazon uses an international workforce of employees which help Alexa understand your voice commands and to develop better ways to interact with its’ consumers.

If you’re concerned about this privacy matter, there is a potential solution that may prohibit Amazon from “listening in”.

  1. Open your “Alexa” mobile app (iOS or Android)
  2. Hit the menu button “which looks like three dashes —” within the upper-left portion of your mobile device
  3. Hit Alexa Account -> Alexa Privacy -> Manage how your data improves Alexa
  4. Disable “Help develop new features”
  5. Disable “Use messages to improve transcriptions”

Amazon may still be able to analyze your data but these settings will greatly limit them.
